The district has procured 10.24-lakh million tonnes (MT) of wheat by May 30 and topped in the state in wheat procurement.
The district has also registered 7% increase in the production of wheat over the last year's 9.51-lakh MT.
Giving this information here on Wednesday, deputy commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind said various procurement agencies have made payment of `1,350.71 crore to the farmers of the district.
He said that the Markfed procured 2.30-lakh MT wheat, followed by 2.1-lakh MT by Punsup, 1.43-lakh MT by Pungrain, 1.30-lakh MT by Punjab Agro and 0.98-lakh MT by the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation. 44,903 MT wheat has been procured by traders.
He said the entire wheat, that arrived in the mandis of the district, has been lifted and the officer involved in the procurement has completed the process successfully.
Having 2.85 lakh hectare acreage under wheat, the district has topped in wheat procurement in the state, but due to heavy rainfall at the time of maturing, wheat growers failed to meet the target of 14.74 lakh MT fixed by the officials of the district agriculture department.
