In the alleged attempt to suicide case of Class 8 student Atharva Gupta of DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, the police have registered a case against four teachers – Jatinder Kaur, Rajiv Kumar, Naveen Kumar and Gopal Das – under sections of IPC and Juvenile Justice Act on Tuesday.
ADCP Ratan Singh Brar said the police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused. He added that more sections can be added in the FIR after investigation. Earlier, an inconsolable and grief-stricken, Atul Gupta, father of Atharva, had recorded his statement with ADCP Brar. Gupta had demanded that police should lodge an FIR against the guilty teachers following which ADCP Brar directed assistant sub-inspector Balkar Singh to get Atharva’s report from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Overwhelmed with emotions, a teary eyed Gupta stated in his police statement, “I received a call from the school at 9am on Thursday and was informed that my son has fallen from stairs and the school teachers are taking him to DMCH. When I asked what happened to him, the teacher on phone gave me the mobile number of another teacher who had taken my son to the hospital. When I reached the emergency ward, my son was lying on the stretcher. He told me that there is pain in his stomach and his physical teacher had beaten him up and after that he collapsed. He is still on a ventilator.”

One of his friend, Ankur has made a video showing pictures of Atharva with his friends and adding a song.
Teacher defends himself on FB

I have not given him any physical punishment. I am receiving threats and if anything happened to me and my family, then these anti social elements will be held responsible for the same,” his FB post
