Former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Jasjit Singh Bunny, son of former Punjab minister late Capt Kanwaljit Singh, was arrested on Saturday for thrashing an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporter in November last year.
Police said the incident took place on November 26, following which Bunny was taken into preventive custody and was released thereafter.
However, victim Parkash Chand, a retired ASI, had later approached the Punjab and Haryana high court, seeking directions for strict action against the accused. An FIR was registered against Bunny on Saturday under Section 341 (wrongful restraint), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at the Sector 3 police station here.
However, he was released on bail later in the day. Victim Prakash had been working for the campaign of Bunny’s mother Sarabjit Kaur, who was AAP candidate from Dera Bassi assembly constituency.
He had alleged that on November 26, Bunny had entered into an argument when he returned after attending Kejriwal’s Goraya rally. He said Bunny chased him up to his home and thrashed him, leaving him injured. Parkash had received stitches on his head.
