For the third consecutive time, the auction of nine shops at the underpath in front of the mini-secretariat received lacklustre response on Friday.
Municipal corporation officials were stunned to find only two bidders turning up for the auction. According to norms, at least three bidders are required to carry out the auction. Therefore, the auction was deferred.
Naveen Malhotra, superintendent of the Tehbazari wing, said as the required number of bidders did not turn up for the auction, it was postponed. The new date would be decided soon, he added.
Before Friday, the auction was scheduled in October last year, when not even a single bidder came forward. The civic body had tried to auction the shops on July 23, 2012, as well, but it was also postponed as only one bidder came for the auction.
The underpath has nine shops, measuring 15.64 square feet each.
