Members of the Auto Union, led by their president Soni Kumar, held a protest and blocked traffic on the Barnala Chowk for nearly two hours here on Friday against the introduction of local bus service started by the Pepsu Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC) from July 14.

Former municipal councillor from ward number 20 Darshan Kangra supported the protest and said, "The low bus fare of Rs 10 had hit the autorickshawalas adversely."

The union submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind seeking discontinuation of the public transport within two days failing which they threatened to sit on a dharna.

The union lifted the traffic jam after the assurance given by tehsildar Manmohan Singh and PRTC general manager GS Hundal that their demand would be taken up with the DC on Monday as he is still out of the town.
