Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal made his last ditch effort on Tuesday to garner support for the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in the Lok Sabha elections, whose top leaders are undergoing jail in teachers' recruitment scandal.

Tuesday was the last day for election campaigning as Haryana will go polling on Thursday.
Addressing a well-attended election rally at new grain market, Badal equated Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay Singh Chautala as "nationalists" who were "victims of political conspiracy".

He said the entire clan of late Devi Lal had always served for the cause of poor and farmers.
Badal said he had family relations with Chautala family and urged people of Haryana to support the INLD in the LS elections.

"Mein tuhadi inian minnatan pa reha haan, Chautale di party nu vote jarur payeo (I am pleading you all so much to ensure that you poll for Chautala)," said Badal in his 10-minute speech in chaste Punjabi.

Badal said that like him, Chautala too was victimised as the then chief minister of the Congress government Amarinder Singh had put him (Badal) and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal by leveling false cases.

"Chautale nu jita deo te agli baar oh pher chief minister ban ke lok sewa karuga (Ensure Chautala's victory and soon he will be the next chief minister," said the veteran Akali leader of Punjab.

He urged the gathering to rout the Congress party as it had failed on all fronts.

"Neighbouring countries like Pakistan and China are constantly posing threat to our national borders. Despite repeated acts of terrorism within in our various cities, the Congress government has failed miserably to evolve a strong counter-terrorism mechanism," he said.

Badal said that owing to poor policies, India had failed to make best use of the natural resources in the country.

"Asli sarkar taan desh hi hondi hai. Ais karke acchhi sarkar center ch change banavo (Real power vests with the Center and ensure good government for development)," he urged.

"Game of 10": INLD legislator from Ellenabad Abhay Singh Chautala urged the party supporters to understand the game of number-10 and vote accordingly.

"Congress ne 10 saal desh pe raaz kiya hai, Congress president Sonia Gandhi 10 Janpath se hukum chalati hai, Chautala saab aur Ajay (Chautala) bhai ko das saal ke saza sunai hai. Ab voting bhi 10 April ko hai aur is baar Congress ka safaya kar ke is 10 ko paltna hai, (Congress party ruled for 10 years, Congress party president Sonia Gandhi is governing people from 10 Janpath, Chautala and his son Ajay have been imprisoned for 10 years. Now voting is also on April 10, so defeat the Congress to change the game of 10)" said Abhay.

He said that INLD workers would work for the victory of the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab in the Lok Sabha elections.

In Haryana, the INLD and BJP was contesting against each other whereas the SAD is a member of the NDA and Akalis are contesting LS elections in alliance with the BJP.
