Congress MLA Kaka Randeep Singh on Wednesday accused the Punjab government of misleading the public by "relentlessly signing MoUs with multi-national companies while no project had actually come up in the state".
Singh said that a response to an RTI application revealed that as many as 128 MoUs were signed during the Progressive Punjab Investor Summit held in December 2013 at Mohali by the ruling SAD- BJP government.
The first among them was signed with pharmaceutical company Ranbaxy and the last one with Omaxe City. They were just an eye wash as nothing had been achieved two years after they were signed, he accused.
Addressing a press conference at Amloh, Singh pointed that an MoU signed by the state with Infosys would lapse by the end of the year while the government had nothing to execute it.
The Congress MLA also took a dig at the ruling government for failing to bring projects to Punjab while they had promised to do so.
Recently, IT giant Dell shut down operations at its Mohali unit.
Referring to the union finance minister Arun Jaitely's denial of special economic package to the state, the MLA questioned how "an astute politician like Parkash Singh Badal, who had been chief minister five times, remained quiet over denial by their alliance partner".
He also suggested that the Akali Dal should withdraw support to BJP in the interest of the public.
