Slamming the union government, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh has said successive Congress governments at the Centre have totally failed in fulfilling the dreams of freedom fighters, who laid down their lives in the freedom struggle.
Addressing the gathering on the 75th martyrdom day of Parja Mandal leader Shaheed Bhagat Singh at Dhandogal village in Sangrur district, the chief minister said it was unfortunate that even after 67 years of independence, the dreams of the freedom fighters have not been fulfilled.
“Due to the ill-conceived policies of the successive Congress governments, the nation was confronting a large number of social maladies like inflation, poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, corruption and among others,” he said.
Badal added that it was a matter of great pride for them that 80% of the martyrs of the national freedom struggle belonged to Punjab.
“Punjabis have made countless sacrifices during the national freedom struggle and the list of renowned and unsung heroes who played a pivotal role in freedom struggle was very long,” Badal said.
The chief minister claimed that the union government had hardly done anything to preserve the rich legacy of freedom fighters. “It was unfortunate that the union government had forgotten the sacrifices of these national heroes and even did not bother to remember them on days associated with their lives,” Badal said.
