Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has said chief minister Parkash Singh Badal would be the CM candidate of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for the 2017 state assembly elections.

“If the people of Punjab give the SAD-BJP coalition the responsibility of forming the next government, then Badal would be CM again,” Sukhbir said while interacting with NRIs from the US, the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and Australia here on Wednesday night, a SAD spokesman said. The deputy CM said his government had implemented historic decisions to improve the socioeconomic face of the state under Badal’s dynamic leadership.

“We will go to the people with our development agenda,” he said, urging NRIs to be wary of the “anti-Punjab” and “antiSikh” propaganda “being spread by the opposition parties”.

He urged the Punjabis worldwide to counter the forces defaming Punjab by dubbing the state as bankrupt and the Punjabis as drug addicts. Sukhbir cited official figures to convey that the state’s fiscal health was on the path of revival and that Punjab is power-surplus now.
