Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday sought personal intervention of Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari for approval of four-lane high-level bridge over the Sutlej on the downstream side, including railway overbridge on National Highway-503 extension so that the work on this project could be taken in hand at the earliest.

In a letter to Gadkari, the CM informed him that the Union government had already declared Kiratpur Sahib-Anandpur Sahib-Nangal-Una road as NH-503 extension in March 2014 but the work on this important inter-state highway connecting to Himachal Pradesh was yet to begin.

The high traffic intensity that increased manifold in the past few years on this route caused traffic jams every day, the CM stated in his letter. The ministry of railways had already appointed M/S Technical Consultancy Services, Dehradun, as a consultant to prepare the detailed project report, a spokesman said.
