Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday greeted the people on the eve of Holi, saying that the festival of colours held special significance in our centuries-old cultural heritage that propagated unity, tolerance and compassion.

"Such festivals not only promote communal harmony in the country but also bring cheer among people and inculcate the fundamental and eternal values among them," Badal said in his message here.

The chief minister exhorted the people to celebrate the occasion with religious fervor and gaiety, rising above petty considerations of caste, creed, colour and religion.

Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, information and public relations minister Bikram Singh Majithia, health minister Surjit Kumar Jyani and rural development minister Sikandar Singh Maluka also greeted the people on this occasion.
