Three days after a Dabwali Transport Company bus of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal mowed down an elderly man and his son on the Ferozepur road near Baddowal, two youths from the village were booked on Sunday over its torching.
The case was registered under Section 435 (mischief by fire) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Dakha. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the seat, advocate HS Phoolka, stormed the police station and said he wouldn’t leave until accused Gurpant Singh and Vikarm Singh were released. “They are being framed at the behest of the state’s ruling family,” he said, after live streaming the high drama on Facebook.
The case was registered on the statement of the company manager. “Cops raided the houses of innocent youths on Saturday night and dragged them to the police station without any proof,” said Phoolka.
“Rule require them to first summon the youths, if they want to question them.
Cops didn’t allow even parents to talk to the detained
youths.” Dakha station house officer (SHO) Kulwant Singh accused Phoolka of interfering in police investigation.
“We have not arrested the youths, only called them to show them a security camera footage to identify the culprits,” he said.
