Taking a dig at the newly-appointed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president, Partap Singh Bajwa, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has said Bajwa was in a really pitiable condition with neither the Congress high command nor the state party unit owning him.

Replying to a query regarding Bajwa mocking at Durga Shakti Nagpal, Punjab-cadre IAS officer posted in Uttar Pradesh, Sukhbir said the Congress has lost its moral right to make an issue of sand mining as on Thursday itself, in neigbouring Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh, sand mining mafia had tried to kill Nalagarh SDM Yunus Khan, a batchmate of Durga Shakti.

Sukhbir was here to administer oath of office to 269 sarpanches and 2,029 panches of Muktsar district on Friday.

He said the Congress has always been in the thick of scams and sand mining crisis all over the country is the result of deliberate policy of scarcity created by the environment ministry of the Congress-led UPA government.

Sukhbir claimed that the mining lobby, whether in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand or Punjab or it may be in Bellary, Karnataka, has direct patronage of the Congress politicians, who have been directly controlling the strings of supply and demand of mining products to keep their prices artificially high.

He added that Bajwa should stage a dharna before the environment ministry and perform his duty as member of Parliament to get all pending clearances regarding mining cleared to ease the situation in the state.

On the visit of Muktsar Congress MLA to sangat darshan of Parkash Singh Badal, the deputy CM said it shows effectiveness of sangat darshan at ground level.

He said nobody in Delhi or in Congress high command recognisesCongress MLAs and they know that if they raise an issue regarding their constituency before the Punjab CM, it would be effectively solved.

Sukhbir said the CM welcomes every citizen of Punjab, irrespective of party affiliation and it was imperative for Congress MLAs to get projects pending with various union ministries sanctioned expeditiously.

On being asked about the presence of People's Party of Punjab, Sukhbir said this 'proxy group' of the Congress is non-existent in Punjab as its all wickets have fallen.

Answering a query regarding return of Manpreet Badal to the Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhbir said it would be decided by the party whether to bring him back or not.

Dy CM sends out Eid greetings

Earlier in the day, congratulating the Muslim community on the pious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr while participating at a function in Idgah, Bathinda, Sukhbir said the survey to identify villages having Muslim population besides identification of panchayat land in their respective villages was in an advanced stage. After the completion of the survey, the government would bring out a policy, he added.

The deputy chief minister said the Punjab government has enough panchayat land in Muslim-populated villages and the process of carving out burial ground would also be started immediately after completion of remaining formalities.

'Bajwa who'

"Kehdi Congress? Bajwa kaun? Accha nave bane ne? Kado bane ne? Bajwa ji vichare. Tarasjog halat hai uhna di. (What Congress? Who Bajwa? Oh some new appointee? When has he been appointed? Poor Bajwa. He is in a pitiable condition)." This was the reaction of Sukhbir Badal when he was asked to react on the Congress statement in which his statement regarding Durga Shakti Nagpal was called laughable.
