Bajwa must resign as PPCC chief: Ex-minister

punjab Updated: May 19, 2014 22:07 IST

Gurkanwal Kaur, a former Congress minister, and daughter of late Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, has called upon the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa to take responsibility for the poor performance of the party in Punjab by putting in his resignation.

Kaur, while addressing the media in Ludhiana, expressed her gratitude to the electorate for having elected her nephew and the grandson of Beant Singh, Ravneet Singh Bittu, as the MP: "Bittu will not let down the people and will deliver as per the expectations."

On Bajwa, she said he had failed to deliver after having taken the reins of the Congress in his hands. "The fact that he has lost his seat (Gurdaspur) further indicates that he did not learn from his mistakes and committed one after the other. He did not spare his own party leaders which increased the friction among party workers and leaders," she went on to add.

She also said that Captain Amarinder Singh, who won against senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley from Amritsar, "has once again proved that he deserves a better position with the party in the state".
