Bank holiday, scarcity of ATMs give Amritsar residents a tough time

With bank holiday coming up on Monday amid the ongoing cash crunch, rush gathered outside the ATM machines since morning in the holy city. Since people did not have the option to exchange their currency or make withdrawal from banks, ATM was the only hope for the residents.

With bank holiday coming up on Monday amid the ongoing cash crunch, rush gathered outside the ATM machines since morning in the holy city. Since people did not have the option to exchange their currency or make withdrawal from banks, ATM was the only hope for the residents.

However, many ATM machines were also closed.

Though banks remained open on Saturday and Sunday but the cap on withdrawals and exchange left people with no choice other than running for money on Monday too.

Gurpreet Singh, queued outside an ATM of Bank of Baroda near chowk Putlighar said, “I have come from Khasa and spotted this ATM kiosk after more than 10 km. I just hope I get lucky and the cash does not dry out till my turn.”

Another person, Naresh Kumar, in queue outside the HDFC bank ATM on Mall Road said, “The situation has created a lot of problem. I am standing here past more than one hour. There is an urgent need of money and the limit of withdrawal is far too less to meet the expenses
