District controller of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs, AP Singh, has been suspended for alleged irregularities in allotment of rice mills to paddy procurement agencies.

Commissioner of the department Satwant Singh Johal said that there had been numerous complaints against the district controller and that he had asked District Food & Supplies Officer (DFSO) to discharge the duties of district controller till appointment, which would be done in a day or two.

President of Punjab Rice Millers Association Tarsem Lal Saini said, "The offier was harassing rice millers. Our association welcomes this move and we appreciate the quick action taken by food minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon."

However, when contacted, the DSFC claimed: "All rice millers were happy at my functioning. Only a rice miller from Dhanaula had been running a campaign against me and complaining on frivolous matters."
