Barnala trust removes encroachments

The improvement trust on Tuesday removed an 'illegal' taxi stand, which was operating at the old bus stand market for the past several years. The taxi owners were reluctant to vacate the area.

However, recently the Punjab and Haryana high court ordered the improvement trust to take action into the matter. Acting swiftly, the trust EO deputed his SDO, XEN and JE to remove the encroachments.

Adequate arrangements for police were made on the request of the trust authorities to avoid any eventuality. However, the drive went off smoothly. The Barnala DTO, along with traffic police personnel, also visited the spot to challan unauthorised taxis and to take stock of the situation in the market.

None of the schemes launched by the trust is free from encroachments. Improvement trust EO Dayal Chand Garg said encroachments from other schemes of the trust would also be removed soon.

As a matter of fact, officially, there is not even a single taxi stand in the entire city, which compounds the problem of encroachments.
