Bathinda couple bag four medals at masters athletic championship

An elderly veteran couple Kanwar Bhim Singh and Manmohan Kaur of Bathinda have won four medals at the 36th National Masters Athletic Championship held from April 16 to 19 at Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
Kanwar Bhim Singh participated in three events shot put, hammer throw and discus throw in the 60+ age category and won a bronze medal in shot put and a silver in hammer throw. He also stood first in discus throw by throwing it up to a distance of 35.40 metres and won the gold medal. His wife Manmohan Kaur won a bronze medal in hammer throw in the 50+ category.
Kanwar said that he has been running a gym in the city for the past about two decades and practised regularly. Manmohan Kaur said that they were the only couple at the championship, who won medals.
Kanwar Bhim Singh said that their family has a huge interest in sports and they believe in staying physically fit. Their children have also excelled in sports as their elder son Kanwar Rustam Singh had won gold medals in discus throw as a student at Giani Zail Engineering College. Their younger son Bakhtawar Singh, who is doing LLB at Punjab University, Chandigarh, is winner in discus throw at the annual athletic meet of Punjab University.
Kanwar Bhim Singh has also been selected to further participate in the World Masters Athletic Championship to be held at Lyon, France, from August 4 to 16.
