Twin sons of a pastor and the driver of a senior employee in the Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) were arrested here on Sunday in the Bathinda gangrape case reported on Friday.

The police have found no red-beacon car that the victim, 17, said was used in her kidnapping. However, the two vehicles they have recovered include a luxury model with the official-flare slot.

After preliminary investigation, the twins are charged with raping the Class-10 student of a private school here but the police have decided to drop the section of kidnapping from the first-information report (FIR) lodged at the Civil Lines, for it appears that the girl had hitched a ride with the suspects.

A special investigation team comprising superintendent of police (city) Dharamvir Singh; assistant superintendent of police (city) Alka Meena; officer in charge of the crime investigation agency (CIA), Rajinder Singh; deputy superintendent of police Avneet Kaur Sidhu, and head of the sexual assault response team (SART) was formed to solve the case.
