A joint action committee of localities along the Dr Mela Ram road, where the municipal corporation of Bathinda (MCB) had started removal of encroachments some time ago, has demanded the completion of the demolition drive.
Convener of the committee, MM Behal said due to some unknown reasons the MCB team had stopped the drive to clear the encroachments along the road and the urban body should complete the same to ease out the traffic congestion on this stretch.
"It was good to see that the corporation resorted to removal of encroachments along this road as the same were causing the problem of traffic congestion for residents. But it is strange that the team left some encroachments untouched, which indicates that something is fishy," he expressed.
After the drive was stopped, residents of the colonies, including Panchvatai Nagar, Vishala Nagar, Green Avenue, Tagore Nagar and New Shakati Nagar, had submitted a memorandum to MCB commissioner Vipul Ujwal to ensure the removal of encroachments on the remaining portion but to no avail. The residents have threatened to start a protest if the corporation did not complete the work.
An MCB team had razed encroachments along the road last week. Ujwal could not be contacted despite attempts to contact him over his mobile phone.
