The local police have arrested six representatives of the School Van and Bus Operators’ Association and booked over 100 other members after they allegedly roughed up the district transport officer (DTO), manhandled mediapersons and tried to set afire a school van while action was being taken against the school vehicles flouting rules.

When the protesters allegedly turned violent and tried to set a van afire, the police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse them. However, no one was reportedly seriously injured in the canecharge.

Bathinda DTO Latif Ahmad had put up a naka near the Hanuman Chowk on Saturday to see if the school vehicles were obeying the norms laid by the Supreme Court.
