The district police have seized 29 bags (11 quintals) of poppy husk worth over Rs. 30 lakh from two different vehicles on Friday.
SSP Kanwaljit Singh Dhillon said that the Badhni Kalan police had received a tip-off that some smugglers were trying to enter by two different vehicles in Moga for selling poppy husk.
"We had set up barricades across the district and the police party tried to stop a Tata Safari car near Daudhar village, the driver of the car turned around and tried to flee. After a long chase, we recovered 15 bags of poppy husk from the vehicle, but the driver managed to flee," said the SSP.
Meanwhile, another police party of the same police station led by ASI Judge Singh has recovered 14 bags of poppy husk from an Innova car parked near Ranian village under Nihal Singh Wala sub-division.
"When we received secret information regarding this car, we conducted a raid and seized 5.32 quintal poppy husk. The smugglers fled from the spot. However, two cases have been registered against unknown smugglers under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Investigations are on," said the SSP.
