Yadvinder Singh of Mansa, who was arrested in December 2009 under the NDPS Act, has been an undertrial in the case. Twelve bottles of narcotic liquid, 800 narcotic tablets and 870 narcotic capsules had been recovered from him.

When arrested in 2009, he had fled from police custody on the next day of his arrest but was again arrested within hours.

On Monday, Yadvinder fled after the policemen accompanying him allowed him to go to the bathroom. He was admitted to the hospital after being injured in the jail.

In April, three inmates of the Bathinda jail had fled from custody of six policemen while being brought back from a court in Panchkula. The three killed a policeman and injured another. Within 36 hours, the police killed two of the three accused in an encounter while third is on the run.

Mansa jail superintendent said: "The inmate was suffering from tuberculosis and on Saturday met with an accident in the bathroom, where he injured his head. Following this, we handed him over to the Mansa police for admitting him to the hospital, from where he fled."

SSP Narinder Bhargav said: "Head constable Gurnaib Singh, and constables Jagtar Singh, Arshdeep Sharma, Pippal Singh, Kishan Lal and Gurpiar Singh have been suspended and a case has been registered against them. The accused will be arrested soon."

Manufacturers, packaging units of food items flouting laws

Manufacturers of food items here seem to have no fear of law as packaging of home-made snacks and other products is being done without any mention of expiry and manufacturing details. Most shops and bakeries are selling items like chips, cakes, pastries etc in packets which don't mention manufacturing date, expiry date, the  manufacturer's address etc.
