7 of Rampura Phul villages die in road accident in Uttarakhand

A pall of gloom descended on nearby villages in Rampura Phul in this district on Thursday as seven people of the area died in a road accident in Uttarakhand.


Nine people, travelling in a Tavera, SUV, were returning after paying obeisance at Hemkunt Sahib in Uttarakhand when the vehicle fell into a gorge in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

The mishap occurred around 6pm on Tuesday when the vehicle skidded off the road as the driver lost control while saving a motorcyclist and fell into a deep gorge near the banks of the Alaknanda.

Four people were killed on the spot while five others were rushed to hospital. The three of the injured succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Shingara Singh, 55, Ajaib Singh, 60, both residents of Himmatpura Kothe Mehraj; Prabhjot Singh, 17, resident of Rampura Phul; Inderpreet Singh, 26, resident of Bhucho Kalan; Lakhvir Singh, 28, of Pitho; Sukhdev Singh; and driver Gurmukh Singh, 26, resident of Mandi Kalan village.

The injured, Sandeep Singh of Nathana village and Sukhwinder Singh of Bhucho Kalan, are undergoing treatment.

The bodies reached the village on Thursday after the post-mortem at the civil hospital here.

Unidentified people booked under cow slaughter Act

The police have booked some unidentified people under the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act after a cow and an oxen were found dead in a truck.
