A march in silence on Saturday was the city's way of speaking out for the Delhi-gang-rape victim, who died in a Singapore hospital in the morning.

Young people crowded Fire Brigade Chowk here to pay tributes to the young women who fought till her last breath. "Time ahead is going to be worse for girls," said MM Behl, convener of the march. "Not only in Delhi but also in all states women have to be conscious of safety."

"I will not mourn but salute the young women who survived for so many days in spite of brutal injuries," said Jasdeep Dhillon, a teacher. "May her soul rest in peace." "Her rapists were inhuman," said Navnoor Sidhu, a student. "I wish the government amended the rape law to give them the severest of punishments."

The death of the rape victim was slap on the face of Indian law and order, said Sabina, another student. "Repeated rapes in Punjab also speak of alarm. Women's safety should be ensured in time," she added. "Delayed police investigation emboldens rapists," said Neetu Arora, a teacher. "We should fight for justice and fair inquiry period."

Shreya, a student, argued that as school always insisted on homework, the police should also be bound to be thorough with investigation to expedite rape trials. "I had planned to study further in Delhi but this incident has frightened my parents and they have decided not to send me to that city," said Lavika, another student.
