Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday said that the Akalis would taste the bitter electoral defeat in Moga byelections no matter how desperately they try to save themselves. He said, people would call their bluff this time as their politics had been all about lies and nothing else.

“Moga will mark the beginning of the end for the Akalis”, Capt Amarinder said, while presiding over a meeting of the leaders’ incharge for different areas for the byelection.

The PPCC president reminded the Akalis, particularly their president and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal that he must prepare for a rude shock in Moga which was of his own making for his failures, corruption, high-handedness and the goonda-raj he has unleashed in Punjab under the command of his brother-in-law Bikram Singh Majithia.

"The people of Moga have made up their mind to teach you a lesson for scripting political betrayals by way of alluring people to defect", he said, while adding, it will prove to be a double whammy for the Akalis as on one hand they will have to confront the public anger over Joginderpal Jain’s betrayal, that was prompted and facilitated by Sukhbir himself, while on other hand they were angry and upset over the misgovernance in the state.

Capt Amarinder has been personally monitoring and coordinating the campaign programme while holding meetings with different groups of leaders responsible for different wards and localities.

He said, the feedback from the ground was overwhelmingly in favour of the Congress as those who had voted for Jain and whom he had now betrayed and let down were waiting with vengeance to get him defeated to set an example against political betrayal and opportunism.

“Jain will now learn it a hard way that it was actually the Congress and not him for whom the people of Moga had voted”, he remarked, while adding, political opportunism has no place in a democracy and people do not approve of it.

Among those present at the meeting included Dr Malti Thapar, Darshan Singh Brar, Harminder Singh Gill, Sukh Sarkaria, Harpartap Ajnala, Sangat Singh Giljian, Inderjeet Singh Zira, Jagroop Singh Takahatpura, Hardev Singh Rosha, Inderjeet Singh, Amrik Dhillon, Jagjivan Gill, Narinder Bhuleria, Gurchet Bhullar, Tarsem DC, Lali Majithia, Jagbir Brar, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Major Singh Bhaini, Gurpreet Kangar, Ajaib Singh Bahti, Ranjit Singh Chhajalwadi, Jasbir Dimpa, Makhan Singh, Ajit Singh Shant, Mohammad Sadiq, Jasjit Randhawa and Harpreet Singh Hero.
