Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Partap Singh Bajwa will spend two days in Bathinda and invite people to tea and dinner in what is being widely perceived as an attempt to counter SAD Bathinda MP Harsimrat Bkaur Badal. Bajwa also plans to hold four rallies during the four days.

The tea and dinner diplomacy has surprised political analysts and is seen an attempt by the Congress to come out of the image of a reactionary party. This is significant as Harsimrat has been quite active and is a regular visitor to the constituency.

Ajit Inder Singh Mofar, incharge Bathinda Congress unit, said in a press conference: "During the visit, Bajwa will interact with the common man and organisations to listen to their grievances. The aim is to expose the false claims of development propagated by the Badals."

Former Minister Harmander Singh Jassi said, "Bajwa will meet businessmen, traders, employee unions, protesting unemployed unions, non-government organizations and social and political groups."

"The public and local leadership will be invited to tea and dinner. It will help him understand local people and problems," said Jassi.

"Of course, the exercise is part of  gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections. We will expose the false claims of the ruling Badal family."
