Basmati procured for first time in Mansa

Grain markets in the have seen the arrival of basmati as the area under the crop was almost double last year's.


Basmati varieties including the 1121 and the 1509 have been produced in 8,000 hectares and 6000 hectares, respectively in Mansa.

"Farmers are especially happy with the 1509 variety as it has proved to be a boost for farmers with far less consumption of water and other necessities. The variety also matures earlier," a farmer said.
