Protesting against hooliganism, the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan) has warned the state's ruling alliance of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of an agitation if it failed to maintain law and order.

On Thursday, the agricultural trade union organised its state-level meeting at Machhi Ke village in this district, where it also condemned the union government for its refusing to declare the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat. It asked the Centre to consider the recommendations of the national farmers commission on the MSP of wheat and other crop.

Joginder Singh Ugrahan, president of the BKU, charged the state government with adopting policies that had led hundreds of farmers to commit suicide. "The BKU will hold a state-level campaign from December 20 to 30 to prepare farmers for the next struggle," he added.

"We also seek the promised residential plots for all agricultural labourers," said Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan, general secretary of the BKU, adding that the supply of electricity to all sectors was irregular.
