State Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar had described the annual union budget as designed for "Aam Aadmi" (common man).

In the budget, the FM had made provision for expanding education and health services, and proposed 20% increase for the agricultural sector, besides rational steps to promote diversification in farming, Jakhar said here on Thursday. "There's incentive to domestic and small trade," he added.
The finance minister had tried his best to follow the vision of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president, Rahul Gandhi, by setting a target of providing youth with skill training, which will help check unemployment and discontent.

Hailing the budget for providing people with relief in tax on readymade garments, Jakhar said the masses would benefit by this step. "There is a landmark provision of Rs. 65,867 crore to implement the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which will boost the literacy rate," he added.

Referring to the proposal of enlarging the ambit of the Pradhan Mantri Sadak Yojna and liberalising its rules and regulations, Jakhar said Punjab would be a major beneficiary and now able to strengthen its road network in rural as well as urban areas.

The proposals of opening cold stores and warehouses in rural areas and pilot projects in different districts to encourage food-processing would brighten the economic prospects of the farming community, said the CLP leader. "For the proposals related to the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), midday meal, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Indira Awaas Yojana, incentives for pregnant women, welfare of children, and the security and safety of women, the finance minister deserves a salute," he added.
