The former chief minister said it was unfortunate that Lalaji's birthplace had to face the byelection because a legislator elected by its people had put himself up for sale. "People such as Lalaji had not sacrificed their lives so that people such as the Shormani Akali Dal candidate, Joginder Pal Jain, could sell the people's trust for petty benefits," he said.

Amarinder accompanied party candidate Vijay Sathi to Dhudike village for campaign, and there, garlanded a statue of Lala Lajpat Rai.
