The Punjab and Haryana high court chief justice should take suo-motu notice of the Jagdish Bhola drug racket that the Patiala police have exposed, Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh has demanded.

So far, the police investigation pointed to the involvement of Akali leaders so the CJ could ensure fair examination, Amarinder said here on Friday. "The guilty, be they from any party, deserve exemplary long imprisonment," he added.

He also advocated opening the Hussianiwala border in Ferozepur district for trade with Pakistan, a case state Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar is pursuing with the party high command. His advice to deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal: "Concentrate on saving the existing industry instead to wooing outside entrepreneurs. The land cost in Punjab is too high to build any major industry."
