Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has avoided to declare the name of former Congress MLA and turncoat Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu as the party candidate for the upcoming Talwandi Sabo assembly segment byelection during the first three days of his Sangat Darshan programme here.

Jeet Mohinder had resigned from the Congress party just before parliamentary elections and joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to strengthen the prospects of the party’s Bathinda candidate Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Talwandi Sabo falls in the Bathinda parliamentary constituency and Harsimrat Kaur secured this assembly segment with a little more than 11,000 votes. She defeated Manpreet with 19,000 votes in the constituency.

Though, Jeet Mohinder remained at the forefront during the chief minister’s Sangat Darshan programnes at Talwandi Sabo that started on May 30, yet he was not projected as the party candidate by the chief minister.

When asked on the issue, the CM said the party would decide on it when time comes.

Meanwhile, tension between veteran Akali leaders and Jeet Mohinder Sidhu was visible during the programmes.
