Comrade cremated; daughters perform last rites

Just like their father who challenged old customs, the daughters of veteran communist leader Harpal Singh Bhullar performed his last rites on Tuesday.

The comrade, 85, had passed away on Monday. The cremation was his native village, Pitho near Rampura Phul. His daughters, Amarpal Kaur and Jeetpal Kaur, lit the pyre. Bhullar's wife, son, and three daughters remain in the family.

Bhullar's body was first brought to the office of the Communist Party of India (CPI) at Rampura Phul. CPI leaders Hardev Arshi, Jagjit Singh Joga, Amreek Singh Phul, Ajay Hindi, Boghar Singh, Balkarn Singh Brar, and Harbans Singh were present.

Member of the CPI all his life, Bhullar was a veteran of many political and social movements. He had worked with famous communist leaders Teja Singh Sutantar, Surjit Gill, Babbu Singh, and Jangir Singh.
