The court of Faridkot duty magistrate denied Jaitu police of the district his further custody. “The police wanted to interrogate Dahuwal for 10 more days, saying they wanted to recover more arms and take him to Gujarat for this, but court remanded him in 12-day judicial custody in the Arms Act case,” said Daduwal’s lawyer Kulinder Singh Sekhon.

The Faridkot police had claimed to have seized from Daduwal a laptop computer on which he had saved a photograph of AK-47 rifles hidden in some religious place in Gujarat. Daduwal has spent two days in police custody after the additional chief judicial magistrate on Saturday had extended it for a day.

His supporters Harjinder Singh and Randhir Singh  are also accused in this case in which police claim to have seized seven rifles, two pistols and 300 cartridges of different guns from them. The police did not seek further custody of these two, and so they were moved to the judicial custody on Saturday.

On Friday, the police had tried to get him on remand also in an attempt-to-murder case that is more than five-year-old but the court remanded him in judicial custody till September 5 in that case registered against 9 identified people, including Daduwal, and 40 others on March 16, 2009, in Faridkot.

The Mansa police reportedly are trying to reopen a three-year-old case against Daduwal, in which regard, it visited Faridkot on Saturday. “Since he has been moved to judicial custody, the court has given the Mansa cops verbal directions to procure production warrants from the Mansa court,” said Daduwal’s lawyer Kulinder Singh Sekhon.

On January 3, 2011, the Mansa police had taken Daduwal into after preventive custody after tense situation over his alleged remarks against the Dera Sacha Sauda head. Angry over the move, his supporters had clashed with the police at Bhikhi town of the district and 50 of them were charged with attempted murder and other offences.

The next day, the police had released Daduwal and others unconditionally on the directions of the state government. Daduwal has been a frontrunner in creating separate gurdwara management committee in Haryana, and is one of the 41 ad-hoc members of the HSGMC, a move that has upset the Punjab government.
