Muktsar deputy commissioner Paramjit Singh has asked the SDM to probe the matter of illegal acquisition of village ponds allegedly by members the ruling party in Gidderbaha constituency after villagers and the local MLA held a protest on Thursday.

MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, demanding that land under 'illegal' possession of some Akali workers at Doda village should be taken back.

Warring along with villagers and members of 'Chappar Bachao Baba Jiwan Singh Sangharsh Committee' took out a protest march over the issue.

The committee members and the MLA alleged that workers of the ruling party, including former Doda sarpanch Jabar Jang Singh, Major Singh, Jaswant Singh and Jagga Singh, had allegedly acquired common land of the village pond.

"In order to acquire the land, which costs over Rs. 50,000 per marla, the Akali workers in connivance with officials had got registered the land in their name," Warring alleged.

"A similar case has come to light at a village in Sardulgarh constituency where workers of the ruling party had demarcated plots for sale even though the Supreme Court, in 2011, had passed a judgment that no one can possess the land of village pond," he added.
