Depressed by poor result, Moga boy steps before train

After failing in Class 9, a poor teenager committed suicide on Saturday by throwing himself under a moving train here.


Kulwant Singh, 14, killed himself near Ajitwal village in this district when the train was on its way from Ludhiana to Ferozepur, Balwinder Singh, an officer in the government railway police (GRP) has said. The train driver reported the incident to the police.

Surjit Singh, father of the teenager, told the police that a month ago, his son had written his Class-9 papers a month ago. "On Saturday, when the result was out and he knew he had failed, he came under stress and took a bad decision to end his life," Surjit added in his statement.

After autopsy, Kulwant's family claimed his body and inquest proceedings were set into motion.
