"All singers at the event this year are Sufi. In addition to the cultural and heritage events, an All-India Gold Cup hockey tournament will be organised," said Faridkot deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat.

Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal will visit the mela on September 22, when rural games and fairs would be organised.

The event will conclude on September 23 with a religious procession and deputy CM Sukhbir Badal will be in town.

Some locals claim that due to the heavy security and traffic restrictions, they are subjected to a lot of inconvenience.
