Students of the local Dev Samaj College for Women on Monday protested against the brutal rape of the five-year-old girl in Delhi.

Girls lit candles and raised concern for the rape victim.

Speaking on the occasion, Veer Davinder Kaur, student of B Sc first year, questioned the patriarchal structure and violence against women. She urged people to accept women as dignified members of society and not just commodities.

Ramanpreet, another student, said that any kind of violence against women would not be tolerated and girls would together fight any violence against them.

The protesters demanded strict punishment for the guilty.

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restrain the Congress government in Maharashtra from going ahead with its decision to "arbitrarily reduce" the representation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in the Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Board from the existing four to one besides denying the membership to the Chief Khalsa Diwan, which was earlier represented on the board.
