Ferozepur, the district which hosted a few matches of the inaugural Kabaddi World Cup 2011, has failed to make it to the list of venues for this edition of the event.

Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal's assembly constituency, Jalalabad, in district Fazilka, will host a few matches.

Disillusioned residents are beginning to blame the bifurcation of the district nearly three years ago for the perceived step-motherly treatment to their area.

During the 2011 event, Sukhbir has assured the residents that local Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium would be renovated, but nothing has resulted.

Local sportsmen and residents are demoralized at the development.

"When Sukhbir won the by-election, we hoped that the this neglected border district will see some development. However, after the district was bifurcated, we have been orphaned," said Ravi Kant Bassi, a sports lover.
"The SAD-BJP government is spending huge cache of funds to construct a new stadium at Jalalabad to host kabaddi matches. However, government employees are not paid salaries," said Congress MLA
Parminder Singh Pinki.

Local resident Gunbir Sodhi said: "To organise kabaddi matches at Jalalabad, a new stadium is under construction while existing one at Ferozepur had not even been considered despite the fact that it has a bigger and better stadium. We have produced players like Ajit Singh, Gaganajit Singh, Manavjit Sandhu, Ronjan Sodhi, and Manjit Singh."

District sports officer Sunil Sharma acknowledged that no kabaddi world cup has scheduled at Ferozepur, while matches at Fazilka will be held on December 4-5.
