GM of Punjab Roadways Moga depot held for bribery

The Punjab vigilance bureau, on Wednesday, caught red-handed the general manager (GM) of the Moga depot of the Punjab Roadways Sukhdeep Singh while accepting Rs. 15,000 as bribe from a private transporter.

Surinder Kumar, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), said that Khuskaran Singh, a transporter of Bathinda, had complained to the police that he has four buses, which are operated by the Punjab Roadways under the Punbus km scheme.

“I wanted to ensure more kilometers for my buses according to government norms, but the GM demanded Rs. 20,000 for this. I paid Rs. 5,000 on August 19 as the first instalment, but the he wanted the entire money before giving permission for more kilo- meters,” said Khuskaran Singh in his complaint.

The DSP said, “While the general manager was accepting Rs. 15,000 as the second installment of the bribe on Wednesday evening from Khuskaran Singh, the vigilance team raided the Punjab Roadways office and caught Sukhdeep Singh in the presence of other officials.”
