Whether it is a poll strategy to win over voters or the real resolve of a greatly religious-minded SAD candidate Harsimart Kaur Badal, but she will be missing the election campaign here for six days from April 1 to 6 to perform some urgent religious ceremonies in Delhi.
The sources in the SAD revealed that the MP has already gone to Delhi to perform these ceremonies.
SAD senior vice-president Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, who is camping here, to canvass for Harsimrat, had the announcement to this effect during a campaign rally in Maisar Khana village in Maur assembly constituency on Saturday.
Ramoowalia had said that Harsimrat was so religious-minded that even during the crucial days of the poll campaign, she decided to go in for religious ceremonies.
Ramoowalia, when asked about it on Tuesday, said that as per the schedule, the SAD candidate wouldn't be available in the constituency from April 1 to 6 as she will be performing some religious ceremonies during this period.
"The party has scheduled to file Harsimrat's nomination papers on April 7 and she will be back on April 6 evening only," he said.
He, however, said that in her absence, the campaign will go on as usual and senior party leaders will be canvassing for her during these days.
Importantly, the SAD leadership, with an objective to strike a chord among the people during the poll campaign, has been trying to project Harsimrat as a very 'religious' and 'spiritual' woman. Almost all the party leaders do not forget to mention this during their speeches.
The SAD candidate was not present at a meeting of the party's Scheduled Caste (SC) wing here on Tuesday.
Minister for animal husbandry, fisheries and dairy development and national president of SC wing Gulzar Singh Ranike along with CPS Sarup Chand Singla, Bathinda (rural) MLA, Darshan Singh Kotfatta and party vice-president Hans Raj Hans addressed the gathering.
Hans, who has been deputed by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to oversee the campaign here, when asked why Harsimrat was not present at the meeting, said only the CPS will be in a position to tell about this. Singla, when quizzed about it, said she is campaigning at some other place in the constituency.
