Minor sets herself ablaze after harassment in Punjab

Alleged harassment by five youths has led to the death of a schoolgirl in Faridkot, police said.


The girl, who had set herself ablaze, succumbed to her injuries at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital on Thrusday.

The girl(16), tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene oil and setting herself on fire on March 5.

The police had arrested four persons in this connection on the complaint of victim's father, a rickshaw puller on the day of the incident.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Faridkot, had recorded the dying declaration of the victim.

As per the FIR, the victim was "being harassed and molested by the accused persons who lived in the neigbourhood. The victim even stopped going to the school as the accused intercepted her way. The victim took the extreme step when her father was assaulted by the accused."

The postmortem report was awaited.
