"There should be no extra protection for any elected member who is indulging in such a crime.

People should not encourage such candidates in elections. Any candidate having any such a case registered against him should be avoided by the political parties and people," said Harsimrat, who was here to inaugurate a langar hall (community kitchen) at a gurdwara on Saturday.

"People who cannot respect women should have no right to sit in the any House of elected representatives," she said.

She also took on the Congress for targeting her brother Bikramjit Singh Majithia and calling him the kingpin of alleged Gunda Brigade of youth Akali Dal. "It expresses bankruptcy of the Congress. The opposition party neither has any issue to raise nor it has any agenda of vision for the state. They have no constructive idea. So, they just pay lip service by accusing Majithia of everything good or bad happening in the state," said the Bathinda MP.

Bathinda MLA Saroop Chand Singla, SSP Ravcharan Singh Brar, deputy commissioner Kamal Kishor Yadav and Om Parkash Sharma was also present on the occasion.

After laying the stone, Harsimrat Badal, for second consecutive day, presided over Sangat Darshan programmes at Mandi Kalan, Bhundar, Kotra Kora, Daulatpura, Gill Khurd, Jhanduke and Mansa Khurd villages in the district. She distributed grant cheques among panchayats for development purposes.

Harsimrat also distributed saplings to panchayats under the Nanhi Chaan programme.
