Former MLA and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Hardev Arshi has alleged that his son Manpreet Arshi, who is a sub-divisional officer ( SDO) in the Public Health Department, has been transferred to Barnala, for his rejecting the advice of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to contest election from the Bathinda constituency.
Hardev Arshi said that the CM had called him up one evening and requested him to contest from Bathinda against his own daughter- in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
“As CPI has extended unconditional support to Congress candidate Manpreet Singh Badal. I have been working tirelessly to ensure Manpreet’s victory. So, it has angered Badals, who had been pressuring me from the very first day not to support Manpreet,” alleged Hardev Arshi.
Manpreet Arshi has been allegedly transferred on the orders of the Election Commission following alleged complaint from the Shiromani Akali Dal youth president Balkar Singh, who had accused Manpreet Arshi of being part of Congress candidate Manpreet Singh Badal’s election campaign.
Balkar Singh had attended the marriage of Arshi’s son along with Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal last month.
Hardev further alleged, “Since I did not please Badals by contesting the polls from Bathinda, so now they have been victimising my son, who is a government servant. SAD made a fake complaint against my son on April 13 and he was immediately transferred from Bathinda to Barnala by the district administration without conducting any proper inquiry.”
