Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said here on Friday, that the Haryana government’s move to wrest control of gurdwaras through remote-controlled ‘modern mahants’ would not be tolerated and the next course of action would be decided after discussing the issue with the Sikh sangat keeping in view the situation in the days to come.

Badal was here to hold ‘sangat darshan’ programmes in Panni Wala, Bodi Wala, Ratta khera, Wadha and Chotta Alamwala and Aspallan villages in Muktsar district.

The chief minister said that on the directions of the jathedar of the Akal Takht, they have called off their agitation against the separate gurdwara management committee in Haryana, but if no care was taken to assuage religious sentiments of the Sikhs, which have been deeply hurt by the Congress government in Haryana, a relevant strategy would be chalked out in consultation with the Panth.

The CM said the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had come into existence after many scarifies by the Sikhs during the British empire and the step of the Haryana government was aimed at weakening this body.
