With no real hope or method of tackling the flood situation, the district administration is intent on working out the modalities for providing relief to those whose lives have been impacted by the flood.

The flood-hit villages have been divided into sectors with a six- member relief team assigned to each village. More than 2,000 canopies have been arranged and around 150 pumps have been working to drain out water.

However, the demand for relief is getting no ear at the moment. Special secretary to Punjab CM, K J S Cheema, who visited the district on Monday, said that any decision would be taken after the water receded.

"Feeder canals in Rajasthan are full of water. Excess of water is coming into the water channels, as even Rajasthan has had good rain. The situation will normalize after water recedes in the canal," said Vijay Pal Singh, XEN drainage department.

Cong MLA demands Rs. 1 lakh compensation for displaced people

Congress MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring visited the affected villages in his constituency for second consecutive day on Tuesday. He went to Doda. Lundewala, Kothe, Giljewala, Badian, Gurusar, Sukhna Ablu, Assa Buttar, Surewala, Kauni, Giljewala, Madhir and other villages and alleged that his constituency was being discriminated against.

"There is no arrangement of water drainage in villages. I demand that Rs. 1 lakh be provided to every family hit by the floods and Rs. 40,000 be provided per acre of damaged crop."
