Notorious drug smuggler held with 40kg poppy husk

The Moga district police, in its drive against drugs, narcotics and smugglers, nabbed a man with 40kg poppy husk on Wednesday evening.


SSP Surjit Singh Grewal said on Thursday that a police party during routine patrolling found Joginder Singh of Charik Road with two bags of contraband, waiting for his customers.

Seeing the police, he tried to flee, leaving behind the bags of poppy husk. The police party chased the smuggler and overpowered him. He said a case was registered against him under the NDPS Act.

Security guard murdered in Sangrur

A 50-year-old security guard of the city-based security agency,Third Eye, was murdered here on Thursday night. The deceased, identified as Avtar Singh of Ubhawal village of the district, was deputed at the main gate of the office of the security agency, when he was attacked with a knife in the chest. The security agency is owned by retired deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Ashok Mohan.
