In a major relief to Canada-based NRI Jagdev Singh, the court of district and sessions judge Karamjit Singh Kang on Wednesday acquitted him of the murder of former Congress MLA Nachhattar Singh Gill.

The deceased was the father of senior SAD leader and former Punjab DGP Paramdeep Singh Gill.

Gill was murdered on September 29, 1991 at his house and an FIR was registered against two unidentified men at the Moga police station.

During the investigation, the names of Jagdev's mother Pritam Kaur, brother Hardev Singh and sister Paramjit Kaur, and Gurjit Singh and Chamkaur Singh were also included in the list of the accused on charges of conspiracy.
