The victim, Reena Rani of Rajpura, had in 1998 married Shivraj of Kotakpura town in Faridkot district. They had four children. About three years ago, Rani entered an extramarital affair with Satnam Singh, her neighbour in Kotakpura.

On Diwali last year, Reena eloped with Satnam to Rajpura and picked up a job over there. Later, she patched up with Shivraj and he agreed to live with her at Rajpura, which enraged Satnam so much that he killed Reena, the police have said.

Shivraj told the police that Satnam had called him on Monday night to inform him that he had killed Reena and left her body in a car at Bathinda. The car belongs to a lawyer from Rajpura, who had rented it to Satnam.

The car was stained with blood.
